Safety

Safe. Skilled. Committed.

Our Culture of Safety Starts with Every Team Member

At GMS, safety isn’t just a priority — it’s the foundation of everything we do. Whether we’re working underground, on the surface, or in the shop, we approach each task with a commitment to protecting our people, our partners, and our environment. From leadership to new hires, safety is embedded in our culture, our training, and our daily operations.

We believe that a safe crew is a successful crew. That’s why we don’t cut corners, take chances, or tolerate complacency. We invest in training, listen to our teams, and celebrate those who lead the way — because safety isn’t just part of the job, it is the job.

Comprehensive Safety Training

Every GMS employee receives thorough safety training before stepping foot on a job site. Our programs meet or exceed MSHA, OSHA, and provincial standards, with site-specific protocols tailored to each operation’s unique challenges. We built our own simulated mine that goes above and beyond necessary training to prepare workers for real-world scenarios through the American Mining Academy. Training covers hazard recognition, emergency response, PPE use, confined space awareness, fall protection, equipment operation, and more. We reinforce safe practices through regular refreshers, audits, and toolbox talks—ensuring every crew member is empowered to work smart and speak up.
